Seminary Program

This is where we post the essays from many of our Universal Life Church Seminary students. When students finish a ULC course, they write a comprehensive essay about their experiences with the course, what they learned, didn't learn, were inspired by, etc. Here are their essays.

Comparative Religion

Comparative Religion at ULC Seminary
Why and How We think about Religion
Rev Lucinda Parker

The Master of Religious Philosophy course is one of the best I've taken anywhere, including college! This course gets to the roots of why religion, how we think about it from various cultures, and how to classify it ( yes, classify just like plants or animals are grouped into families). This is NOT a comparative religion class where the beliefs of different religions are explored. This class covers why religion exists. Why as human beings we create religions, practices and gives some great thought exercises on why religion will survive despite its many dramatic changes over the millennium.

This class is a wealth of information. I absolutely loved it. It made me think about what religion, as a body of thought and feeling, really is. I loved the series in the middle of the class about myth, doctrines, and other ways we as humans express our religion. I also really enjoyed the classification system of east west north and south and how that system so neatly categorized the myriad of thought and religious practice that exist.

As a philosophy class, it does make you examine your personal beliefs and why you have them. This class does not espouse a particular religious belief. What it does over 24 weeks is encourage one to really look at the thought and philosophy of religion and theology as a whole.

I think every seminary student should take this course. It is mind broadening and thought provoking.

*******************************

The Universal Life Church is a comprehensive online seminary where we have classes in Christianity, Wicca, Paganism, two courses in Metaphysics and much more. I have been a proud member of the ULC for many years and the Seminary since its inception.

The Universal Life Church offers handfasting ceremonies, funeral ceremonies and free minister training.

As a long time member of ULC, Rev. Long created the seminary site to help train our ministers. We also have a huge selection of Universal Life Church  minister supplies. Since being ordained with the Universal Life Church for so many years and it's Seminary since the beginning, I've watch the huge change and growth that has continued to happen.
