Seminary Program

This is where we post the essays from many of our Universal Life Church Seminary students. When students finish a ULC course, they write a comprehensive essay about their experiences with the course, what they learned, didn't learn, were inspired by, etc. Here are their essays.

A Course In Miracles

As a former student of the Course in Miracles I can see many similarities in this course of study. It is basically a positive way of living or perceiving things in a different way, through different eyes. The ego, because it is constantly in the survival mode, is always ready to defend, protect or attack. What this course teaches is if you trust your ego for the answers you will fall into a trap and become the victim of circumstances. Why? Because you have given your power away to an illusion that you thought was real. I do not believe the ego is always wrong however. We may have created our ego but it is not that simple.

The ego is part of our personality. And even though it reacts to fear and other negative feelings, these reactions were born from experiences. Just because we are living in this world does not mean that all of our experiences are illusionary. Try pinching yourself and see if it hurts. One of the reasons we came to this planet was to experience or sense feelings. Perhaps one of the things we came here to do was to overcome our feelings or find the balance we need to live with our feelings. I enjoy living in this world and the many experiences that brought me to an understanding of my own inner awareness.

The real discovery within ourselves is to know what unconditional love is, to be non- judgmental, and to have an open heart to forgive or find forgiveness where it is warranted. Mirrors are not always a reflection of your self. If that were the case we would be harshly judging ourselves rather than reflecting. To reflect is to study, perceive, and to be objective based on the interaction between circumstances.

The Course of Miracles as well as this course is very deep. I have learned a lot about the psychology behind action or inaction, being more conscious of what I create, think, or the act of allowing conflict and drama, or the willingness to change things as I want them to be. It is an interesting concept to be more in-tuned with the higher self rather than your physical nature. It is easier said than done because we live in a physical world. It is when we find answers that faith, love, joy, happiness… become part of our journey.  It has taken many years of allowing and adjustment to find my life purpose or mission. And it took a long time to realize that I create my own happiness, joy, etc. I would not change things in the past (I could not anyway because it is done), to get to where I am today.

I believe in the power of prayer and meditation, and I believe in miracles.
This course was very helpful in discerning how everything fits in a universal way, not just how it fits in my life.
